M Collins and Sons is the principle supplier of quality cricket wicket
soil for construction and topdressing within the Sydney region and to numerous
cricket clients throughout NSW. Recently the company has supplied to the ACT and
with new developments in transportation of our Premium product we look
towards future clients outside Sydney.
The companies long history as a soil supplier had its beginnings in 1895 with
the supply of cricket wicket soil to Sydney’s earliest cricket grounds,
including the Sydney Cricket Ground. The company’s modern Production facility
has the material handling and processing technology to ensure the high quality
of the Collins Wicket Soil is maintained. The Company utilises technical support
and service of a NATA accredited laboratory to ensure the unequalled high quality
of the Collins wicket soil remains consistent.

There are two specification levels of Collins wicket soil.
Screened wicket soil.

The standard wicket soil produced to a particle size grading of between 10-15mm.
Produced primarily for the construction of grassed cricket wickets. |
Crushed wicket soil

The newest specification level produced to a size of 5mm. Specifically produced
for the topdressing of grassed cricket wickets as a time saving management
procedure. |

The company operates and maintains a fleet of modern trucks of varying
capacities to meet all delivery requirements. Soil deliveries in a truck and dog
trailer can be split between two cricket clubs within the same town for more
efficient delivery of cricket wicket soil outside the Sydney metropolitan
region.
M. Collins & Sons are also a major supplier of quality sports turf grown on
company owned turf farms at Camden. Legend couch (Cynodon dactylon var.Legend)
is regarded as the premier couch grass variety for the use on grassed cricket
wickets.
Washed Legend Couch is produced using the most-up-to-date turf grass washing
production technology.
Other specialist services provided by M. Collins and Sons include contract
removal of existing grassed surface, delivery of cricket wicket soil, supply and
lay of washed Legend couch in large rolls and supply and spreading of
topdressing sands using the purpose-built Collins Sportsturf Topdresser and our
medium-sized Lamborghini 4WD tractor.
